Getting a Good Night's Sleep

  • More than 100 million Americans of all ages regularly fail to get a good night's sleep.

  • This disorder is characterized by leg movements that occur at regular intervals while sleeping, just enough to break the sleep pattern but not enough to make the sleeper aware its happening.
  • Five percent of people between the ages of 30 and 50, 25 percent between 50 and 65, and 44 percent over 65 experience periodic leg movement disorder.

 

Narcolepsy

  • A genetic, chronic neurological disorder involving the body's central nervous system that causes excessive daytime sleepiness, and automatic but unremembered behavior.
  • About one in 2,000 people suffer from narcolepsy.
